A cavity or damaged tooth can affect your child’s comfort and ability to chew. At MV Kids Dentists & Braces, we provide dental restorations in Mountain View, CA, to help repair teeth and protect growing smiles. Our team explains the treatment options so you can feel informed about your child’s care.
Baby teeth do more than hold a place in your child’s smile. They help children chew, speak clearly, and maintain space for permanent teeth. Although these teeth eventually fall out, untreated decay can cause pain and infection before they are ready to come out naturally. Restoring a tooth when appropriate helps preserve its function during these important years.
We recommend treatment based on the extent of decay, the tooth’s condition, and your child’s individual needs. Our restorative services include:
Dental fillings: We use composite resin and glass ionomer cement to repair teeth that have enough healthy structure to support a filling. Our office does not use amalgam fillings.
Prefabricated crowns: When decay affects several surfaces or leaves too little tooth structure for a filling, a crown may provide better coverage. We offer stainless steel crowns for back baby teeth and white crowns when appropriate.
Pulp therapy: When decay reaches the soft tissue inside a tooth, a filling alone may not be enough. Depending on the diagnosis, we may recommend pulp therapy to help preserve a tooth that can be saved.
Not every area of early decay needs a filling, and not every damaged tooth needs a crown. During your child’s evaluation at our Mountain View office, we assess the affected tooth and discuss which approach fits their needs.
Restorations also do not eliminate the risk of future cavities. We consider prevention alongside treatment to help protect both restored teeth and the rest of your child’s smile.
We understand that restorative treatment can feel unfamiliar to children and parents. For children who feel anxious, we may recommend laughing gas when appropriate. We also encourage morning appointments for younger children receiving restorative care. Our team can discuss these options as we plan your child’s visit.
Daily care remains important after a filling or crown. Help your child brush with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth as directed. Keeping regular dental appointments allows us to monitor their oral health and reinforce habits that help reduce future decay.
